Industrial Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Systems

Raw Water Pump & Pretreatment Filters

All operations of industrial reverse osmosis water treatment equipment start with the raw water pump, which delivers raw water to pre-treatment tanks. Pretreatment tank sizing and quantity are not fixed; they scale flexibly with system capacity. Tank configuration can also be optimized based on the raw water source and its Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) concentration, ensuring tailored pretreatment for brackish water, well water, surface water, or municipal feed.

During pretreatment, the system efficiently removes high loads of suspended solids, iron content, turbidity, color, odor, chlorine residual, sediment, organic contaminants, and other objectionable tastes. Depending on customer preferences and project requirements, the pretreatment process can be equipped with either manual valves or automatic control valves, providing flexible operation while improving the reliability and efficiency of industrial water purification.

Cartridge Filter Housings — Security Filtration

After pretreatment, the water flows into the cartridge filter housing, commonly known as the security filter in industrial water treatment applications. This stage protects the RO membranes by capturing fine particles that remain after pretreatment. For most industrial reverse osmosis water treatment systems, the filter housing is manufactured from SS304 or SS316 stainless steel.

For high-salinity applications such as brackish water reverse osmosis systems and seawater reverse osmosis systems, carbon steel, FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic), PVC cartridge filter housings, or bag filter housings are also available. Standard configurations typically utilize 1-micron or 5-micron PP filter cartridges, depending on the feed water quality and filtration requirements.

 High-Pressure Pumps & Membrane Housings

After passing through the cartridge filter stage, water enters membrane pressure vessels coupled with a high-pressure pump. Pump brand selection is flexible and can be aligned with project budgets — common choices include Grundfos, CNP, or Danfoss high-pressure pumps for industrial brackish water RO systems.

Membrane elements installed inside the pressure vessels are available in 4040 or 8040 form factors, selected according to system capacity. Pressure vessel material is equally configurable: 304 stainless steel or FRP membrane housings can be specified to match end-user requirements and site conditions.

Reverse Osmosis Membranes — The Core

The RO membrane is unequivocally the most critical component in any tailored industrial reverse osmosis plant. With filtration precision reaching below 0.0001 micron — effectively operating at the molecular level — the membrane rejects substances in the 150 to 250 Dalton molecular weight range.

This includes dissolved impurities, suspended particles, sugars, proteins, bacteria, dyes, and both organic and inorganic solids, delivering effluent water of exceptional purity suitable for industrial process water, boiler feed, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and food & beverage production.

Chemical Dosing Systems

To enhance operational stability and treatment performance, industrial reverse osmosis systems can integrate chemical dosing at the pretreatment or post-treatment stage. Commonly dosed chemicals include:

Chemical Type Primary Function Benefits for Industrial RO Systems
Antiscalants Prevent mineral scale formation on RO membrane surfaces Reduces membrane scaling, improves water recovery, and extends membrane lifespan
Antifoulants Minimize organic, colloidal, and particulate fouling Maintains stable membrane flux and lowers cleaning frequency
pH Adjusters Regulate feed water pH before RO treatment Optimizes membrane performance and protects system components
Biocides & Disinfectants Control bacteria, algae, and microbial growth Prevents biofouling and maintains hygienic operating conditions

These dosing systems enable precise regulation of water chemistry and membrane operating conditions across industrial RO water filtration systems.

CIP (Clean-in-Place) System

At AOMI, we review the client’s raw water analysis report and evaluate scaling and fouling risks before configuring a CIP cleaning system for the membrane array. The CIP skid performs periodic chemical cleaning of RO membranes inside the pressure vessels without requiring membrane removal, effectively maintaining clean membrane surfaces and significantly extending membrane service life. This ensures reliable long-term performance of your custom industrial reverse osmosis system.

Water Treatment Systems FAQ: Technical & Operational Insights

Get expert answers regarding our diverse range of water purification technologies, from Brackish Water RO and EDI systems to Ultrafiltration and Desalination solutions.

Q1
How do I choose the right industrial water treatment system for my facility?

Choosing the ideal industrial water treatment system depends on your feed water quality, required flow rate, and specific application (e.g., boiler feed, cooling towers, or pharmaceutical grade). Our experts recommend a comprehensive water analysis to design a customized filtration solution that ensures long-term efficiency and cost-savings.

Q2
What are the maintenance requirements for a commercial reverse osmosis (RO) system?

To ensure the longevity of a commercial reverse osmosis system, regular monitoring of pressure differentials and membrane cleaning (CIP) is essential. Typically, industrial RO membranes should be replaced every 2-5 years, depending on the pre-filtration efficiency and water hardness levels.

Q3
Do your water treatment systems comply with international environmental standards?

Yes, our systems are engineered to meet ISO, CE, and NSF standards. We prioritize sustainable water treatment technology, helping factories reduce wastewater discharge and achieve environmental compliance while optimizing operating costs.

Q4
Can you provide turnkey solutions for large-scale water purification plants?

Absolutely. As a leading water treatment manufacturer, we offer turnkey water purification plants including site assessment, system engineering, professional installation, and after-sales support for various industries globally.

Q5
What types of water treatment technologies do you offer for industrial applications?

We specialize in a comprehensive suite of technologies, including Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) for groundwater, Seawater Desalination systems (SWRO), and Ultrafiltration (UF) units for pre-treatment. For high-purity needs, we provide EDI (Electrodeionization) ultrapure water systems. We also supply high-quality water treatment components and accessories to ensure seamless system integration.

Q6
How do I determine which membrane technology (RO vs. UF) is suitable for my source water?

It depends on the target water quality. Ultrafiltration (UF) is ideal for removing suspended solids and bacteria (pre-treatment), while Reverse Osmosis (RO) is essential for removing dissolved salts and minerals. For industries requiring zero-ion water, such as power or electronics, we integrate EDI systems after the RO process for continuous deionization.

Q7
Can your desalination systems handle high-salinity brackish water or seawater?

Yes. Our seawater desalination reverse osmosis (SWRO) equipment is specifically designed with corrosion-resistant materials to handle high TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels. Similarly, our brackish water RO systems are optimized for energy efficiency when treating salty well water or industrial process water.

Q8
Do you provide replacement parts and technical support for existing systems?

As a dedicated water treatment manufacturer, we maintain a large inventory of water treatment accessories, including RO membranes, filter housings, and control valves. We offer technical support for system upgrades and routine maintenance to ensure your water purification plant operates at peak performance.
